After years of working in property, it took just a few glasses of wine and a husband-and-wife brainstorm for Angie Holmes to pluck up the courage to go it alone. Seven years, two offices and four staff on, she really has put a new lease of life into residential leasing in Ellon. We found out how Angie got her business off the ground and what she reckons is next for our friendly community…

Where service comes with a smile – always

“I’m a people person at heart. Add that to my leasing qualifications, intense property knowledge, extreme efficiency and first-hand experience of being a landlord and tenant, and I knew I could do it.

I really wanted independence to do things my way. Aberdeenshire Leasing would be all about giving tenants and landlords the best service possible; that personal yet professional touch when renting out a property or finding the right space to suit your needs.

Determined to succeed

But when I started in 2014, competition was tough. I didn’t let it get me down, though. In fact, it made me more determined to succeed. I promoted myself with radio advertising, set up shop at the Scottish Home Show and, as I got busier, added word of mouth recommendations to the mix. We were finally growing and I took on my first premises. Result!

Seven years in, I consider myself a strong player for residential leasing in Ellon. I’m a hands-on business owner so a typical week can involve meeting new landlords and tenants, carrying out viewings, dealing with maintenance issues and lots more.

“It’s a thriving, modern market town. So many people want to live here and I’m not surprised – it’s safe, it’s friendly and it has so much to offer. There are lots of places to eat out, plenty of sports activities and one of the north-east’s best beaches is just a stone’s throw away. Plus, we’re ideally placed for commuting to all parts of the city or to Peterhead. What’s next for Ellon? I predict more retail and a bigger medical practice. It’s what we need for our vibrant, growing community.”

The best bits are my team, our success and getting great feedback. The worst part is definitely that the buck stops with me.
